“I am new to your work, and it moves me profoundly,” I wrote to George after listening to his version of “John Barleycorn,” and his album Ghosts. I offered him a bouquet of poems, and he picked one and wrote back, “May I make this a song?” So began our collaboration and friendship. It was the winter of 2020. As the darkness of the pandemic was sweeping the land two sparks ignited 6000 km apart and kindled into one flame.
